Miranda & Office Manager, Agent Cooper

she/her/hers

Art has the power to bring joy, healing, and peace. I cherish opportunities to create beauty and inspire self-discovery through art. I bring my sunny disposition to all I do and actively seek opportunities to use sustainable and upcycled materials.

I am a professional artist, designer, and yoga teacher in Nashville, Tennessee. I work in my home studio and specialize in calligraphy, hand-engraving, lettering, watercolors, drawing, and graphic design. Clients include American Chemical Society, Armani, Dior, Gucci, Jo Malone London, Maker’s Mark, Nordstrom, Ray-Ban, and UPS. It is an honor to have my engravings, paintings, calligraphy, and hand-pulled prints in private collections in Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, Washington, DC, France, and Japan.

I have always been curious and inspired by art, design, letterforms, literature, communication, history, nature, and science. That curiosity greatly influences my art and way of teaching. I have been teaching private and group calligraphy and art classes to teens and adults since 2016, and yoga classes since 2020.

I studied drawing and watercolor painting with Ellen Elmes for two years at Southwest Virginia Community College before receiving a BFA in Graphic Design from Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, DC. I have 20 years of experience in print graphic design, specializing in logo design, brand/visual identity, publication and book design, custom lettering, invitations, and stationery design. Please see LinkedIn for my complete resume.

In 2013, I longed to step away from the computer screen and work more with my hands. With a dream of designing typefaces one day, I signed up for a local calligraphy class because of my love of typography. My first teacher was Rose Wathen. In her class, we worked with watercolors and inks. I quickly rediscovered painting and drawing, and the relaxing, creative freedom that I yearned for. Rose introduced me to the Nashville Calligraphers Guild where my passion for calligraphy and the decorative arts flourished. In 2015, I designed my first typeface to date, in Reggie Ezell’s 26 Seeds A Year To Grow class in Louisville, KY. “Miranda Neuggy Light” is inspired by roman capital calligraphy by Friedrich Neugebauer, an Austrian graphic designer and calligrapher.

Since Reggie’s class, the fine art side of calligraphy enveloped me and I have not pursued typeface design fully, but will in the future. Calligraphy is the perfect combination of graphic design and fine art. I get to flex my keen eye and design muscles while using fun papers and other surfaces, pencils, pens, markers, inks, watercolors, acrylics, pastels, the list goes on.

I am the artist and person today because of loving family and friends, practice, discipline, and wonderfully talented teachers. I am a lifelong student and continue to learn from the most inspiring calligraphers, artists, and yogis around the world.
